Melissa Stevens, LPC-Intern, NCC

Melissa was born in Alabama but raised in Texas. She received both her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Melissa has been married for 7 years and has a 4 year old daughter and another little girl expected December 2016. She loves being a wife and mom and believes this is the greatest job she has ever had. These two very important roles have helped her to be able to provide a comforting and judgement free environment for her clients. She has been with Abiding Hope as a student and is now continuing her work as an LPC-Intern. Melissa has had a strong passion for helping people for as long as she can remember and Abiding Hope has provided an avenue for her to continue to grow not only as a professional in the field but as a Christian. She has been a Christian since she was in elementary school and believes that a person’s faith is important to their overall health and well-being. Melissa’s walk with God has been a journey that has led her down many different paths in life that have helped her to discover what her true calling is and has led her right back here to Abiding Hope where she feels she is helping to transform the lives of those she has the pleasure of helping.
Throughout her time as student and Intern she has worked with a variety of topics. Two of Melissa’s passions lie in helping adolescents and adult women who struggle with self-harming behaviors, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, and everyday life struggles. Melissa prides herself on her ability to connect with her clients and develop strong therapeutic relationships that leave her clients wanting to come back to see her. Over the last couple of years Melissa has developed the ability to connect with not only the youth that she works with, but also their parents and family, helping to lead to better communication and relationships between the adolescents and their families. Melissa believes that God has given her a gift to work with any challenge thrown her way and doesn’t shy away from the difficult things as she believes God will never give us more than we can handle. She has a strong foundation between her walk with God, her education, and her experience to work with anything that comes and provides adolescent, individual, group, couple, and family therapy.

Christina Ashby, LMSW

If you've decided to seek help and you’re entrusting a therapist with your most personal concerns. It is vitally important that the fit be right. Hope and relief come sooner when you find a therapist you feel comfortable with, someone you click with, and has the skills and experience you need.
I have been in the ministry of helping individuals, families and couples most of my adult life. I balance concerns while allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me in ministering to individuals of all ages, couples, and families. I strive to meet people where they are, help them understand their strengths, and aid in the empowerment of taking charge of and developing their lives. Since I believe God is working within me, I am humbled by His direction over my life to help others and am honored to meet and work with all individuals.
You will be encouraged to look at the story you tell about your life. Even if you were powerless in the past, it's possible to have some control in the present. You'll learn to respond thoughtfully rather than react self destructively to what life throws in your direction. I'll help you be kind with yourself as you learn new tools and overcome even long entrenched patterns. And when you're faced with tragedy and loss, having a compassionate witness along with you can be enormously helpful. I do this by modeling the methods of Christ, which is meeting the client where they are. I'll work collaboratively and interactively with you, using empathy, flexibility, insight and humor to craft a treatment plan tailored to your unique strengths and needs.
If your family or a loved one is need of therapy, counseling, skills training and/or educational support, I can assist you! “He comforts us in our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction”. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:4
