Monthly Message From GingerJanuary 2007: I have a picture I have in my mind that we are children of a great King. As little princesses and princes we are not only allowed but encouraged to run into the throne room of grace and jump up on our Father’s lap and tell Him about all the good things that are going on and all the bad things we are worried about. He is waiting for us to come and talk to Him. We do this through prayer. Sometimes, even as Christians who believe in the power of prayer, we don’t pray enough. I am not talking just about time spent in prayer, although the Bible tells us in I Thessalonians 5:17 to pray without ceasing. No, I am talking about praying about everything as we are encouraged to do in Philippians 14:6. You might be surprised how many times as a Christian counselor who counsels practicing, active Christians, when I ask: “Did you pray about this?”, I get the answer: “no, I didn’t think of that”. I pray about a lot of things: for family, for each of my clients and each of those sessions, for me to be fully surrendered to whatever God allows in my life. But recently I was touched at two different events, both regarding prayer. The first event was a ladies retreat I attended in the fall. The session I attended was on prayer and the person leading the retreat turned to Psalm 27:8 which says in the New Living Translation “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming’”. I was once again struck by the idea that the Lord is calling to me to come and talk with Him and to talk with Him about everything that is on my mind. When I don’t go He is left waiting. Because I know He is waiting my response should be, “I am coming” and I should go frequently. The second thing I heard about was at another ladies event where someone talked about keeping your Christmas cards and each day praying for the sender of one of those cards. Since I get about 60 cards a year, I decided that I would pray over two families/people per day, getting everyone covered in about a month, and about twelve times per year. It has been a delightful addition to add these friends to my daily prayer experience. God is speaking to our hearts: “Come and talk with me.” Won’t you join me for an adventure in talking to God about everything in 2007? -Ginger See Previous Monthly Messages:
